I am definitely not a creative person. I am definitely more of a logical type of person. However, Pinterest has a lot of creative ideas. That’s how I found out about a date jar! Me and my boyfriend made one a couple days ago. Basically, both you and your partner come up with date night ideas and add them to a jar. When you have no idea what you want to do together, you pull an idea out and that’s what you do!
It was really fun to make! We both had really creative ideas to add. Also, our date jar is a Tardis because we both love Doctor Who! 😛 The first idea we pulled was to watch a scary movie. I am excited because I added a lot of cool ideas like rollerblading, canoeing, coloring, making crafts, and pumpkin carving! It will be cool to be able to do fun and spontaneous things!
Eventually, the “date jar” will run out, but our plan is just to do it all over again. I would highly recommend this idea to anyone! It’s really creative and it’s cool to see what your partner will come up with to add. Thanks, Pinterest for the cool idea.
I had a really fun weekend! The weather was absolutely gorgeous so I ended up skipping the gym to go on a nice long walk. As soon as you enter Winona, there are two lakes that surround the road. That’s where I ended up going on my walk. There is a bigger lake which is around 3.2ish miles? and the smaller lake is 1.7ish miles? Total it ends up being 5 miles. I love walking! I think it’s a relaxing way to be active and walking long distances is a really good workout. I posted some pictures on my walk. I even found some cherry blossom trees which are native to Japan. Apparently, our university has a good relationship with a Japanese university so they gave cherry blossoms to Winona. It’s super pretty now that they have finally bloomed.
On Saturday, I went rock climbing! In our recreation center, we just finished building this massive rock wall. I climbed up to the ceiling twice on two separate rock walls. I was pretty proud of myself actually. There were two other walls that I couldn’t figure out how to get up. I want to go back so I can get up those rock walls. I have been sore in my forearms for the past few days now, but it’s really worth it. I hope to go back again before finals!
Recently, two important movie trailers have been released: Star Wars the Force Awakens & Batman vs. Superman.
Star Wars The Force Awakens trailer was released this week. My first reaction: Darth Vader’s mask!? There were rumors about Luke turning to the Dark Side. Personally, I don’t think I would like that too much. Luke was the savior in the last trilogy so for him to go to the Dark Side. I don’t think so. I don’t think Darth Vader should come back. He’s dead and has been defeated. I want to see someone new become the villain. Also, the soccer ball robot (BB-8) is so cute. I call it a soccer ball because when I watched the first teaser, that’s what it made me think of. I love the last line that Han Solo says “Chewie, we are home”. It was a perfect way to end the trailer. That being said, I wonder if Han Solo will die in this new trilogy? The reason I say that is because Harrison Ford has always wanted to see Solo die in the other movies, so to me this might set up the stage for the other movies if Solo dies. Hmm.. only time will tell. This will easily be the most anticipated movie coming out in 2015.
The second trailer, Batman vs. Superman was leaked. It was originally coming out on Monday, April 20th. My first reaction: I love the shot of Superman and people crowding around him. Superman out of all the other superheroes that exist is the one that people look up to. He is someone who is trying to do the right thing. I like that there is a little narration provided by Lex Luthor. There is this chant in the trailer: “Go Home”. Imagine if superheroes actually existed in our world. This movie to me seems realistic if these heroes exist, how would our race react to them. I also like the shot of Batman and his sonar/detective vision. It is also featured very heavily in Batman Arkham Asylum. One thing I didn’t really like is Batman’s voice, it sounds very robotic to me if that was even his voice when he talks to Superman. Overall, I think this movie does have potential. As someone who did enjoy Man of Steel, I really think that DC could get this right. I know that a lot of people don’t have the faith I do, but I think Ben Affleck has terrific talent and I think he can do this. One thing to note is where is Wonder Woman!? I absolutely love the costume that she is wearing in her poster. It would have been super cool to see it in the trailer.
Those are my initial thoughts on these trailers! I am hyped for both of these movies. If you have seen the trailers, let me know what you think 🙂
Today was a beautiful day. I walked home several times from campus, read outside, and watched my new favorite TV show, Daredevil on Netflix.
On April 10th 2015, Marvel and Netflix released a show titled Daredevil. There are thirteen episodes in total. I just wanted to say that this show is amazing. I don’t like sitting and watching five episodes in a row and having it take up my entire day. Daredevil is worth watching though and I will make time in my day to finish season #1. I will probably finish it by the end of this week, and I may post about it later on, but for now here are my initial first thoughts about Daredevil.
First of all, this show is the best portrayal of Daredevil. Matthew Murdock is a lawyer in Hell’s Kitchen. New York City. As a child, he is blinded when he is involved in an accident with chemicals. He is given gifts and these gifts heighten his senses. He uses his gifts to help become a vigilante for Hells Kitchen. Daredevil isn’t a hero. He uses violence to try and restore peace to his city. He will torture bad people to find out about higher up criminals. This definitely makes him an anti-hero. He uses his day job as a lawyer to lock up criminals and punishes the criminals that escape the law. This television show is very gritty and violent. I think it has to be that way because that’s how Daredevil is as a character. He is someone you secretly root for because he does things to bad people that you wish you could do. He punishes rapists, he beats up thieves and he makes examples out of the criminals in the city. Though he never kills anyone he comes into contact with. Is Daredevil a bad person? Yeah he is, but do you secretly root for him to clean up Hells Kitchen? Absolutely.
The acting in this show is incredible. Charlie Cox is clearly prepared for this role and he does a really good job at acting as Matt Murdock. There is never a point in time where his acting isn’t believable. He put a lot of work into this character and it definitely shows. Besides Charlie, there is Vincent D’Onoforio who plays Wilson Fisk. Fisk is a force to be reckoned with. Fisk is someone everyone fears and D’Onoforio plays this part very well. Plus I absolutely love the women in this show. Rosario Dawson plays Claire, a nurse who helps heal Matt Murdock and Deborah Ann Woll plays Karen Page, a receptionist who is trying to uncover corruption in Hell’s Kitchen. There are two very strong female characters in this television show who are witty and intelligent.
Finally, the action sequences in this TV show were planned and executed well. They are so quick and it’s hard to believe that someone spent time rehearsing these sequences. Fight scenes in action movies or TV shows are all about a routine. You learn the moves and you practice them. Every action sequence keeps me on the edge of my seat because it’s so fast-paced and unexpected.
To end this post, I want to recommend this wonderful show. It has a captivating story, an excellent cast and it really is the TV show that Daredevil deserves. Now I will be returning to Netflix to finish this season and become sad when it’s finally over.. 😦
Gaming has always been a hobby that I have enjoyed. Currently, I am playing through Murdered Soul Suspect on my boyfriend’s Xbox One. I have considered for a while making that big step and purchasing an Xbox One.
I started gaming in the fall of 2007. I really wanted an Xbox 360 and I actually got one as a Christmas present that year. My first game was Halo 3. I spent hours playing Halo and I actually got pretty good. After spending too many hours playing Halo, I started expanding my horizon. I started playing through Bioshock. Bioshock is one of my all-time favorite video games. The story is fantastic and it still manages to scare me every single time I play. It’s one of those games I could play over and over again and I would never get bored. Bioshock changed the way I viewed video games. My other favorite video games include Bioshock, Halo 3, Batman Arkham Asylum & City, The Simpsons Game, Max Payne 3, and L.A. Noire. Throughout my high school years, my gaming increased. I had the time to put hours into a game and try to collect as many achievements as I could.
Now that I’m in college, I haven’t been able to play video games as much as I would like. My 360 is still at home because technically I and my brother share it. Recently, I have considered whether or not making that $350 dollar splurge would be worth it. The Xbox One does have a Blu-Ray player in it, so it would be buying a really nice DVD player as well. I do actually need a DVD player. There are really cool games coming out (Arkham Knight anyone?). However, I’m still hung up on that price. I could buy so many clothes with that or put that money into savings or even splurge on Twins baseball tickets (which is on my summer wishlist).
For now, I’m just going to be gaming away on my boyfriend’s Xbox One. Once I’m finished with Murdered: Soul Suspect, I will post a review here, until now Happy Gaming everyone! 🙂
Happy Belated Easter! I did not go on any Easter egg hunts or eat chocolate bunnies, instead, I went hiking and relaxed all weekend!
One of my good friends from home came to visit me on Easter weekend. I live around three hours from home, so I chose to stay in Winona. The first thing we did was head back to the Winona County Library. I already made a post about this so I won’t talk about this too much. I did take some really nice pictures of the library that will be posted below.
The other exciting event this weekend was hiking! Whitewater State Park is located about twenty minutes from Winona. I love hiking because it’s a workout outdoors and it brings such an accomplished feeling. I took some beautiful pictures on my hike and it was absolutely gorgeous outside!
Here are a few of my favorite pictures I took on Easter Weekend:
I absolutely cannot wait to write this review because I loved every single page of this book. I finished this book last night, and I felt satisfied. I absolutely love Rainbow Rowell as an author, and I will definitely read more of her books!
Fangirl is about Cather Avery. Cather, who goes by Cath, is going away to college, and she is nervous. Cath is also the biggest Simon Snow fan ever! In this world, Simon Snow is huge! Cath writes fanfiction all the time, and her website she writes for, is popular. This book is about her experiences in college and how she grows as a person.
I absolutely love Cath as a person! She’s really shy but extremely passionate about what she loves. I would say that I relate to her because of how geeky I am.
Cath goes through many other personal experiences, including the hospitalization of her father, her mother trying to reappear in her life, and dating. I feel like these experiences really shape Cath, and it shows how close she is to her family. Cath is an easy character to relate to, and that’s probably why I love the book so much. I’m constantly rooting for her.
This book made me want to keep reading, and I read almost half of the book in a day. I gave this book five stars on Goodreads, and I even added it to my favorite bookshelf. This is my favorite book I have read in 2015 for sure.
Libraries are the most beautiful buildings. Wednesday I was feeling adventurous and I wanted to study somewhere that wasn’t my room. I decided to take a trip downtown to the county library. I had actually never been to this library before. It surprises me because I have always wanted to go, but I had never gotten around to it.
As soon as I arrived, I immediately headed up the stairs and I found a table on the second floor. On the second floor where I sat and studied, there was a huge dome with stained glass art. It’s spectacular! I ended up cranking out a lab report for two hours, but the library is peaceful. I would much rather go to the county library than the campus library. It’s nice to get away from other college students. After I was finished with homework, I wandered through the shelves of old library books.
The bookshelves themselves were pretty cramped but they were very ornate. The library reminded me of a building that could have existed in the 1800s. I like that they didn’t just tear down the building and instead kept restoring it. It shows that this building has been a part of the history that Winona, MN has to offer.
I have such a huge book backlog right now, but I managed to find some books to check out. I also opened up my Winona county library card. I checked out Rest in Pieces by Rita Mae Brown. It’s about a woman solving murder mysteries with her cat! How great is that!? Cats are amazing creatures. Finally, I checked out The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien.
I’m not sure that I will get around to reading three library books before they’re due, but I will definitely take more pictures of the library and upload them when I go back.
Yesterday, I had an advising appointment with my adviser to sign up for classes. I love advising. I love planning out what classes I’m taking and in what order. As it turns out, I am on the five-year plan to graduate. I’m okay with this.
Freshman year of college, I had the idea that I wanted to go to medical school. So I majored in Biology Allied Health and Pre-Med. In my sophomore year fall semester, I had an epiphany. I hated organic chemistry and I realized I didn’t have the passion to go to medical school. I called my mom in tears because I had no idea what to do. I ended up changing my major to Exercise Science because it’s still a form of biology. A year ago I switched my major and I haven’t looked back.
This major switch has set me behind. Instead of graduating on time, I have at least another semester plus my internship before I graduate. For many, this may be frustrating. I am actually pretty happy about this conclusion. I can take 12 credits per semester and graduate instead of plowing through 18 credits in two semesters to finish on time. I want to have the time to delve deep into my required courses.
Plus, I love school. I am so proud to be a Winona State University Warrior. I love my campus, my professors, and my apartment. I have made so many great friends here and I love where I work. I will always have a connection to Winona State and I know when I graduate I will come back and visit.
Today I figured out my summer plans. I have decided to live in Winona, MN for the entire summer. However, I will be going home at least once a month to see my family. Me and my family are pretty close. I consider my mom more of a best friend than a parent. My brother & me play Magic the Gathering, various awesome board games, and video games when we hang out. Being in Winona will make me miss my family more. I am excited to stay in Winona for the summer.
I have many reasons that led me to this decision. In May, I’m taking a summer class. The class is titled Nutrition for the Physically Active. I think it would make for a great summer class because it’s Monday-Friday 7:45-9:45. This class lasts until June and then that’s when I decided to update my lease to 11.5 months instead of 9 months.
Going to school in Winona has made me realize how much I consider Winona to be a second home. I have made so many memories in college that will carry with me for the rest of my life. I have talked to friends of mine who have all agreed on how gorgeous Winona is in the summer. There are no college students, the town is incredibly peaceful and it has the most gorgeous weather.
I love the feeling when you finally figure out your plans. I can relax and start the countdown to the end of finals and the start of summer.
